The majority of rescues occurred in Northern Region (53 %), followed by Central Region (26%), South Coast Region (17%), Bay Delta Region (3%), and Inland Deserts Region 6 (1%). A total of 30,182 fish were rescued representing 19 different taxa (Table 2). From January 1, 2015, through December 31, 2015, a total of 294 rescues were conducted in all CDFW Regions, except for Marine (Figure 1, Table 1). Most rescues occurred in Central Region (47%) followed by Northern Region (26%), North Central Region (13%), Bay Delta Region (7%), South Coast Region (5%), and Inland Deserts Region (> 2%). There were 116,211 fish rescued representing 27 taxa (Table 2). Most of the fish were rescued were in Northern Region (61%) and North Central Region (29%). Fish rescued in Bay Delta Region represented about 7% of all fish rescued while Central Region represented about 3%. The Navarro River watershed has experienced exceptional drought conditions in summer/fall of 2021 and the upcoming winter and spring are expected to be drier than normal. Status and trend monitoring show that salmonid populations in the Navarro River are at a high risk of extinction and their abundance continues to decline. The drought lasted for five years, from 2012 to 2016. On January 17, 2014, Governor Jerry Brown declared the drought a state of emergency. This proclamation directed all state agencies to act to prepare for and mitigate drought-related effects on water supply and aquatic species. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) responded by developing and implementing “Drought Stressor Monitoring”. In late 2016 to early 2017, drought conditions improved considerably throughout most of the state when winter storms delivered higher than average levels of rainfall.
